In this year’s derby registration there is an opportunity to donate to the Toby Pennels Scholarship. This scholarship was established by Toby’s wife, Brenda and their children, to be given to a high school student who offers the same values that Toby represented, the best of Maine, and his example of selfless service which inspired so many.
Toby was a Rotarian for over 13 years and was a very involved member in many of, if not all, of their projects, but was very much part of the Sebago Lake Ice Fishing Derby organizing committee. Last year Toby took the leadership role for the derby which was one of the most successful in years. Perfect ice conditions and planning as well as Toby’s leadership strategies helped to create a perfect storm for the success.
The Sebago Rotary Club wanted to honor Toby during the derby this year, so the 50/50 seemed like a way to get the very people who enjoy this special event to honor him too.
The 50/50 will be drawn and one lucky registrant will receive half of what was collected and the remaining to go to the scholarship.
