There are two Kid’s Derbies this year to choose from, both on Friday, February 19th, 2010!

The 2010 Kittery Trading Post Kid’s Derby will be held on Friday, February 19th (vacation week for most) from 9:00 AM until Noon at our new location at Range Ponds State Park off Empire Road in the Town of Poland. As in the past, this event will be limited to the first 500 entries who are age 12 and under.  Entry is FREE! however there is a $1.50 State mandated Range Ponds park gate fee collected the day of the event for everyone over age 12 .

Run in cooperation with the “Hooked on Fishing” program and Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, there will be plenty of expertise around to teach the “Art of Ice Fishing” for even the first time ice angler!  Holes are pre-drilled, and each child will receive a free ice rig, courtesy of Kittery Trading Post.

Free parking and food vendors on site  This is a great outdoor activity at the Sebago Lake Rotary Club’s junior ice fishing academy!

The 2010 First Annual JackTraps.com Hooked on Fishing Kid’s Derby will also be held on Friday, February 19th from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Cochnewagan Lake in the Town of Monmouth.  This derby is limited to the first 200 entries who are age 12 and under and your entry must be received NLT Feb 5, 2010.  Entry is FREE!

Like the Range Ponds Kid’s Derby, there will be expertise on site to assist and volunteers to drill holes.  Each child will receive a free ice fishing related gift for participating.  Derby Headquarters will be located at the Monmouth Town Beach located on Beach Road in Monmouth.  Organizers will have some bait available and participants are encouraged to bring their own.
